Nissan Sentra: Small Sedan With Big Output

The new Nissan Sentra has tremendous capabilities for a compact sedan with a lightweight body. When you tour the showroom of Lithia Nissan of Ames, you'll be impressed by the car's all-new installations under the hood. Let's review the powerful turbocharged engine block that's available in this Japanese car.

Displacing 1.6 L on each full combustion cycle, the Sentra's Direct Injection Gasoline engine pumps out a maximum of 188 horsepower. This compact turbo powertrain has a peak torque output of 177 pound-feet. Additionally, the DIG engine uses a direct ignition system for the initial phase of combustion. A low-pressure cooling system controls the temperatures in this four-cylinder powertrain that has class-leading capabilities on the highway.

The conventional Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission has been slightly updated for the new Sentra and other Nissan models. Several pre-set gear combinations are integrated into this trademark CVT, which is also compatible with custom drive modes.
