Design
There are well-assembled and uniform textures throughout. There's also a large analog speedometer next to a seven-inch reconfigurable digital display and a generous eight-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Despite its size, the Leaf is also quite comfortable thanks to its comfy seats and spacious rear space. The rear of the Leaf also offers plenty of cargo space despite the rear seats not folding flat. With the seats up, around nine carry-on bags can fit in the truck, and about 19 when the seats are down.
Performance
As a compact EV hatchback, the Nissan Leaf comes standard with a 147-horsepower electric motor and a 40.0-kWh battery pack. However, the Leaf SV uses a more powerful 214-hp electric motor and a larger 62.0-kWh battery. Also, front-wheel drive is standard on every trim.
Charging & Range
The Leaf is best used as a commuter vehicle as its base 40.0-kWh battery pack only offers 149 miles. However, with its 60.0-kWh battery, the SV Plus provides a better range at 215 miles.
As for charging the model, Nissan says the standard Leaf's battery and the larger one on the Leaf Plus can be replenished in seven hours on a home 240-volt connection. When plugged into a regular 120-volt outlet, charging times can vary between 7.4 and 11 hours. Although at a DC-Fast Charger, the Leaf can reach 80% in about 30 minutes.
Technology
Installed in every Leaf model is an eight-inch infotainment display running on the latest Nissan Connect software. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a four-speaker stereo come standard, but a six-speaker audio system and seven-speaker Bose system are optional.
Safety
In all Leaf models, Nissan has installed a suite of advanced driver aids called Safety Shield 360. With this bundle, Ankeny and Marshalltown drivers receive:
- Automatic emergency braking
- Rear automatic braking
- Lane departure warning
- Lane keeping assistance
- Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert
- Blind-spot intervention
Trim Levels
There are two trims for the Nissan Leaf: S and SV.
S: As one of two trims, the S comes loaded with a fair number of features. Sitting atop 16-inch steel wheels, the S offers a height-adjustable driver's seat, four USB ports, and a four-speaker audio system. An eight-inch infotainment touchscreen is also standard, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
SV: Being the highest trim, the SV builds on the S with more tech amenities. These include fog lights, heated outside mirrors, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel. On top of that, the audio system gets upgraded to six speakers, and a navigation system is installed.
