You may have heard a few months back that Nissan was buying the Datsun brand and would be injecting life into the withered automaker, which was originally the Nissan company's flagship brand but was replaced by the Nissan name. After almost three decades of Datsun wilderness, Nissan recently revealed the new Datsun Go sedan in Delhi, India.

The Datsun brand's primary focus will be providing budget-level vehicles for emerging markets, with Nissan remaining the more upscale brand (behind the luxury Infiniti marque, of course).

The new Datsun Go hatchback will be built directly in India and will go on sale next year for the equivalent of about $6,600. It uses a front-wheel drivetrain, a five-speed automatic transmission, and a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. Other new Datsun models will be sent places like South Africa, Indonesia, and Russia.

Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan and partner Renault, introduced the new car to the world, stating, "This is an historic day for Nissan Motor Company and for our customers and partners in some of the world's fastest-growing markets. It's also an exciting moment for many women and men here in India who - today - come one step closer to realizing the dream of purchasing a car."1 What an incredible moment!
